Words On A Page
Sounds like a good idea, sound
advice…it’s from the Bible you
know. But still -
Count it all Joy?
Look here –
He’s in this building that’s
covered by steel. Supposedly a
safe place in more ways than
one. He’s like the only black
guy around. How did the bullet
find him? Damn near a
statistical impossibility. So
much for statistics.
You know I’m mad, right?
Yeah, that’s to be expected.
It’s been less than a week – far
too short of a time span for us
to make sense of this senseless
situation.
After all, it could have been
any of us. Does any one of us
really need a reason to be there
at 4pm on a Friday? No, I guess
not. Could have been any of us.
Ah man, I’m still mad.
Sometimes at times like this
maybe its better to think of the
person and the way he lived his
life rather than the way it was
stolen. Yeah, that’s got to
bring some comfort. Especially
when it comes to Norman.
He taught me that it’s not
enough to prepare for tomorrow
without also living for today.
Norman had so many friends
because he took the time to
spend with people and cultivate
friendships. Sure, he was a busy
guy – classes, success, and
excellence. But all with a
smile. Funny, Norman made it
seem easy.
I hate it when this happens. He
was here. Did I tell him then
how great I thought he was? Nah,
after all I thought he’d be here
awhile. But he’s not. Now
instead it’s just words on a
page. Do you think he knew? He
knew, right?
So, I want to tell Norman that
his presence had value. Without
it there’s a void. The
possibilities of his future were
endless and good stuff was in
the making. It’s day five, close
to 2am and I want you to know I
miss you.
